Vidyaranyapura police are on the lookout for a six-member gang that allegedly barged into a spa and salon centre on Vidyaranyapura Main Road,assaulted and threatened its employees,and allegedly extorted money by threatening to implicate them in false cases of illegal activities.
According to a complaint filed by a 26-year-old employee of Y Salon and Spa,the group,comprising four women and two men,entered the establishment on October 3 and allegedly claimed to be associated with the media and an organisation.
The group allegedly accused the employees of being involved in illegal activities and threatened to report them to the authorities.
The complainant alleged that the accused intimidated the employees and warned that false cases would be registered against them if they failed to pay money.
The group allegedly initially demanded Rs.5 lakh and later insisted on smaller amounts.
Fearing legal action and consequences to their jobs and families,the employees allegedly arranged and handed over around ₹96,000 to the group.
The complainant further alleged that the accused continued to demand another ₹50,000 and threatened them with further action if the money was not paid.
The incident reportedly took place between around 8.15 am. and 10.30 am. on October 3.
The complainant said the employees were left frightened following the incident and subsequently approached the Vidyaranyapura police.
Police have begun an investigation and are attempting to identify and trace the six accused. Investigators are also likely to examine available CCTV footage and other evidence relating to the alleged incident and money transaction.
A case is expected to be pursued based on the allegations made in the complaint,and further details are awaited.
