The Jeevan Bheema Nagar police have arrested two local men for allegedly peddling banned drugs and seized 150 grams of amphetamine and 264 grams of suspected narcotic substances, besides a two-wheeler and two mobile phones.
The total value of the seized items has been estimated at Rs.24 lakh, while their market value is around Rs.43 lakh, police said.
The accused have been identified as Abdul Jabir,28,a POP worker and resident of Rajendra Nagar,Vivek Nagar, and Asgar Ali R,31,a lab technician from Neelasandra, Vivek Nagar.
Both have no previous criminal cases,according to police.
Acting on a tip-off received on September 19,Jeevan Bheema Nagar police registered a case under the NDPS Act and conducted a raid at an open place near the service road of Domlur Ring Road,where the accused were allegedly selling banned narcotic substances.
Police initially seized 32 grams of amphetamine, a two-wheeler allegedly used for the offence and two mobile phones from the duo.
During interrogation,the accused allegedly told police that they had purchased banned drugs at lower prices from unidentified persons from outside the state and were selling them at higher prices to members of the public,including college students,for profit.
Based on the information provided by the accused, police conducted a search of their residence at an apartment in Viveknagar and seized another 118 grams of amphetamine and 264 grams of suspected narcotic substances.
The two accused were produced before a court on September 20 and taken into police custody for five days.
Following further investigation,they were produced before the court again on September 22,and the court remanded them to judicial custody.
With the arrests,police have recovered a total of 150 grams of amphetamine,264 grams of suspected narcotic substances,one two-wheeler and two mobile phones.
The investigation is continuing to identify the suppliers who allegedly provided the drugs to the accused.
