The Bengaluru South City Corporation has imposed a total fine of Rs.1,25,839 on PVR INOX and Forum Mall staff for violations related to waste management and the use of banned single-use plastics.
Officials inspected PVR INOX on Hosur Main Road in Lakkasandra Ward,under the BTM Layout Assembly Constituency,and found that the establishment had failed to segregate wet and dry waste at source and was using banned single-use plastic items.


The corporation imposed a Rs.75,000 fine on the cinema,including Rs.50,000 for non-segregation and mixing of waste and Rs.25,000 for using banned single-use plastics.The amount was recovered on the spot.
In a separate incident,STP waste was found dumped illegally near Shop Well Supermarket in Jayanagar Housing Society Layout on Uttarahalli-Kanakapura Main Road.
Acting on information from local residents,civic officials questioned Forum Mall staff,who reportedly admitted that the waste had originated from the mall.
The corporation subsequently imposed and recovered a Rs.50,839 fine from the Forum Mall staff.
Officials directed the establishments to ensure scientific disposal of waste and strict segregation of wet and dry waste at source.
They also instructed them to immediately stop using banned plastic items.
Bengaluru South City Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh warned commercial establishments,including malls,cinema theatres and hotels,to comply with Solid Waste Management regulations.
He said inspections would continue and legal action would be taken against establishments found violating waste-management norms.
Health inspectors,marshals and Solid Waste Management department officials participated in the enforcement drive.
