An accused arrested in POCSO case and presently out on bail created high drama by climbing a nine-storey apartment building and threatening to jump, alleging that a false case had been filed against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon near the Devanahalli bypass in Bengaluru Rural district.
The accused identified as Anand,a resident of Ambedkar Colony, had reportedly come out on bail recently after being jailed in a POCSO case.
According to police,Anand climbed to the 9th floor of a private apartment around 12 noon and began threatening to end his life, demanding justice.
He insisted that senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner and Police Commissioner,be brought to the spot.
Preliminary information suggests that Anand had been in a relationship with a 14-year-old minor girl in 2023 and had allegedly married her, leading to the registration of a POCSO case against him. After securing bail, he had been working as a delivery executive.
However, fresh tensions reportedly arose between him and the girl’s family, who had again approached the police, leading to further distress.
On receiving information, police, fire and emergency services, and SDRF personnel rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
Officials spent hours negotiating with him, assuring that his grievances would be looked into.
Despite repeated efforts,Anand refused to come down until evening. After nearly seven hours of continuous persuasion, authorities finally managed to bring him down safely.
He was subsequently taken into custody by Devanahalli police for further legal action.
Speaking to media after being rescued,Anand claimed that he had not staged any drama and alleged harassment.
“A false complaint was filed against me in a love matter.I took this step seeking justice and wanted the complaint to be withdrawn,”he said further investigation is underway.
