Woman Sets Boyfriend Ablaze After‘Western-Style Proposal’Ruse in Bengaluru;Arrested

In a shocking case of alleged premeditated murder,a 27-year-old woman was taken into custody by Byadarahalli Police Station police for allegedly burning her boyfriend alive at her residence in Anjananagar on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim,Kiran (27),had arrived at the accused Prema’s house around 2 pm after she invited him over.Both were employees at a telecom company (VI) and had been in a relationship for nearly two years.

Senior officer told reporters that the accused lured Kiran under the pretext of a“Western-style proposal.”

She allegedly blindfolded him,tied his hands and legs to a chair,and reassured him when he questioned the tight restraints,claiming it was part of a trend popular abroad.

Investigators said the woman then removed his clothes and distracted him before dousing him with petrol and kerosene,which she had arranged in advance,and setting him on fire.Kiran died on the spot.

Further investigation it was revealed that the accused also recorded the entire act on her mobile phone.The footage has been seized and is being examined as crucial evidence.

Initially, Prema attempted to mislead investigators by claiming she was in the bathroom when she heard a loud sound and later found Kiran had set himself on fire.

However,officers grew suspicious after examining the scene.“At first glance,it appeared to be a case of suicide, but investigation confirmed it was murder,”said Deputy Commissioner of Police,Northwest,DL Nagesh.

Further inquiry established that the petrol used in the crime had been arranged by the accused.Police also noted that the victim had arrived on a bike carrying only a bag and had not brought any flammable material.

Officials said the couple had frequent disputes,with the accused believing Kiran was avoiding her.

However,police suspect there may be additional motives and are probing whether anyone else was involved.

Senior officers,including ACP,Ashok and Inspector Bhaskar,visited the crime scene.A murder case has been registered at Byadarahalli Police Station,and further investigation is underway.
