Alert Yelahanka police Head Constable Sridhar Murthy saves bike taxi rider from ending his life

A 38-year-old Rapido bike taxi rider was rescued from an alleged suicide attempt on a railway track within the jurisdiction of Yelahanka Police Station in Northeast Division,thanks to the swift response of a police constable on patrol duty on Sunday evening .

According to police,the Police Control Room received an alert that a man was lying on a railway track and attempting to end his life.

 

Acting immediately,Head Constable Sridhar Murthy (HC-13669),who was on Cheeta vehicle patrol,rushed to the spot without delay.

On reaching the location,Murthy found the man lying on the track after allegedly consuming alcohol.He quickly pulled him to safety,preventing a potential tragedy.

Preliminary inquiry identified the victim as Vijay Kumar , a Rapido bike taxi rider. Police said he had taken a business loan of ₹28 lakh four years ago but suffered heavy losses.

With accumulated interest,the debt reportedly ballooned to nearly ₹1 crore.Unable to repay the amount,he was allegedly facing harassment from money lenders.

Distressed by financial pressure and after being separated from his wife and son,he decided to take the extreme step.

As part of his plan,Vijay Kumar had consumed alcohol and lay on the railway track,waiting for a train.

A vigilant resident from a nearby apartment noticed the situation, recorded a video, and alerted the emergency helpline 112.

Following the rescue,Murthy counselled Vijay Kumar, assuring him that suicide is not a solution and offering guidance and support.

He later contacted the victim’s family and safely handed him over to his brother.Police said Vijay Kumar later called the constable to thank him for saving his life.

Officials have commended the timely action,dedication, and humane approach of HC Sridhar Murthy, stating that his prompt intervention helped save a precious life.
