Prison officials have recovered six mobile phones and earbuds, were found inside a barrack in a prison facility during a surprise inspection on Saturday.
According to the complaint filed by the superintendent of the prison,Karna B Kshatri,the incident came to light on March 14, 2026,between 2 pm and 2.30 pm,during a check in the Security Division-1 section of the jail.
During the inspection,officials found two mobile phones and one pair of earbuds in Room No.10 on the second floor of the security wing.
In addition,one mobile phone,one pair of earbuds and a charger cable were discovered in the toilet of Room No. 11 in the same section.
Prison authorities stated that three mobile phones,two pairs of earbuds and one charger cable,which are strictly prohibited items inside prison premises,were recovered during the search.
Officials suspect that the banned items were smuggled into the prison and that inmates had been using them illegally inside the jail.
Following the discovery,a complaint was lodged seeking legal action against those responsible for smuggling, assisting in bringing the items inside the prison,and using them within the jail premises.
Based on the complaint,a case has been registered under Section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons (Amendment) Act, 2022,and further investigation is underway to identify the inmates and others involved in the incident.
Over 200 mobile phones have been seized so far and as many as 30 cases has been registered at the Jurisdictional Parappana Agarahara police station , seeking detailed investigations.
