Tension prevailed near Sarjapur in Anekal taluk on Monday after members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest against Azim Premji University,alleging that the institution facilitated an event containing anti-national content.
According to ABVP leaders,the protest was organized after an event allegedly portrayed the Indian Army in a derogatory manner and included discussions related to the separation of Kashmir from India.
Protesters also accused student groups of conducting programs that they claimed were against the unity and integrity of the country.
During the demonstration,ABVP activists smeared black ink on the university name board as a mark of protest.
Police personnel rushed to the spot to prevent escalation and detained a few students under preventive custody.Officials stated that the exact number of those taken into custody is yet to be confirmed.
In a memorandum addressed to the Union Home Ministry,ABVP demanded strict action against the student organization allegedly involved and called for an inquiry into the incident.
The group also sought action against the university administration for allegedly allowing such events on campus.
Police sources said the situation is currently under control and further investigation is underway.
