A 35-year-old City Armed Reserve constable who was on his way to work chased and nabbed a chain-snatching accused after a dramatic pursuit of 1.5 kilometre on railway underpass Bapujinagar in the limits of Vijayanagar police station On February 5.
The incident occurred on February 5,when the accused allegedly snatched a gold chain from a woman identified as Drakshayani and attempted to flee the scene.
The victim,a school teacher was returning home from work when the accused snatched her chain and began to flee .
Constable Hanumantha Putani,heading to CID headquarter for his night shift heard the victim’s screams and immediately sprang into action.He chased the suspect for nearly 1.5 kilometer before pinning him down.
The accused has been identified as Syed Jaffer,20 was later handed over to the hoysala police who arrived after Putani called the control room and updated the incident .
Police said a 40-gram gold chain worth approximately Rs.6 lakh was recovered from his possession.City police commissioner, Seemant Kumar Singh,issued a certificate of appreciation on Tuesday.
