The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested a man for allegedly cheating a professor by falsely promising him a post as a member of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) by impersonating a senior official from the Vidhana Soudha Secretariat.
Senior officer said the accused K.C.Jagadish posed as M.Ravimayya,Joint Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat,Vikas Soudha,Bengaluru.
Using the fake identity,he allegedly assured Dr. Venkatesh Muttannavar,Assistant Professor at JSS Science College,Mysuru,that he could secure him a KPSC member post.
Believing the claims,the complainant reportedly transferred a large sum of money to the accused.
However,after realizing that he had been cheated,he lodged a complaint with the Bengaluru Police Commissioner.
Following an inquiry,the complaint was handed over to the CCB police,who registered a case after finding prima facie evidence of cheating,impersonation and forgery.
Acting on the complaint,CCB police arrested K.C. Jagadish on January 22, 2026,and have taken him into custody for further investigation.
Police said efforts are on to trace other accused involved in the scam,who are currently absconding. Further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused cheated others using similar methods.
