The RT Nagar police arrested Rajashekar (29)and Varaprasad Reddy (24),an MBA and B-Tech graduate from Andhra Pradesh,and recovered 754 kg of red sandalwood worth Rs.75.4 lakh.


Senior officer said the duo,was unemployed,confessed to have stolen the logs stored by an unknown individual near Madanapalle in Andhra Pradesh and transported them to Bengaluru in an attempt to sell them.They were caught before they could get the prospective clients .
The duo was produced before the court and taken into five days custody for further investigation,KS Tanveer, Assistant Commissioner of Police,is heading the investigation.
In a similar case,a team from the Hulimavu police intercepted a car on November 7 and arrested Ahmed Pasha (29) of Thanisandra.The vehicle contained illegally stocked red sandalwood logs.
During interrogation,Pasha confessed that he and his associates sourced the wood at low prices from a supplier in Kadapa district,Andhra Pradesh,intending to sell it at higher rates in Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh.
Based on the information he provided,police recovered, 316 kg of red sandalwood and a car from Tamilnadu, 496 kg of red sandalwood and another car from Kulumepalya,Bengaluru,total seizure in this case stands at 812 kg amounting worth Rs.1.75 Crores.
The police have also detained a juvenile involved in the racket and efforts are on to track down one more person,who is presently on the run.
