Bengaluru East City Corporation Commissioner,D.S. Ramesh,held a progress review meeting today with the Engineering Department,including Roads and Basic Infrastructure,Major Stormwater Drains,Lakes,and Project divisions.
Speaking at the meeting,the Commissioner emphasized that the Bengaluru East City Corporation is distinct from other City Corporations of Bengaluru due to its high population density.
He directed that the Engineering Department must lead by example in promptly addressing citizens’grievances.
Highlighting the key role played by the Engineering Department, the Commissioner issued the following directives to officials:
*Address complaints registered on the ‘Fix My Street’ app and potholes identified by the Bengaluru Traffic Police as a top priority, and ensure that potholes in all wards are closed without delay.
*Ensure that all sub-arterial roads are maintained in good condition, and that quality standards are upheld in all upcoming road works.
*Remove encroachments on major stormwater drains, and desilt and clean the drains to maintain proper flow and functionality.
*Expedite the TDR (Transfer of Development Rights) process to resolve land acquisition issues that are delaying road widening works,and complete the pending projects promptly.
*Ensure regular cleaning of gratings to prevent blockage and allow smooth water flow into side drains during the rainy season.
*Take necessary action against unauthorized constructions that have already received demolition notices, and ensure that no new unauthorized buildings come up.
*Continue pedestrian pathway encroachment removal drives and organize regular mass cleanliness campaigns.
*Prevent encroachments on lakes, and undertake lake development projects using CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds.
*Carry out ward-level silt and tractor operations to improve waste and debris management.
The Commissioner further noted that a lack of coordination exists among various divisions of the Engineering Department.He instructed officials to work in close coordination to ensure better civic amenities for the public.
Present at the review meeting were Lokesh, Chief Engineer of Mahadevapura Zone-1, Lokesh, Chief Engineer of K.R. Puram Zone-2 Krishnamurthy, along with Executive Engineers and Assistant Executive Engineers.
