Villagers of Rajaghatta especially women raised serious concerns over the rampant sale of liquor,claiming it is destroying families and pushing their husbands into addiction and joblessness and sought police help to contain the menace.
The issue was brought up during the SC /ST grievance meet organized by Bengaluru district police along with the Mane Manege (door to door police service)police on Saturday.
Lakshmmamma,one of the villager who spoke on behalf of other women in the locality,asking the Superintendent of Police,CK Baba,stating that the liquors shops in the area opens up at 6 am and operate till 12 midnight or beyond .
This will posing threat to the families as the men get drunk early in the morning and do not go to work.Most of the families have difficult situation due to the alcoholic menace and pushing the families into penury .
Adding to the worst grocery and vegetable shops started stocking liquor to the customers making them accessible round the clock .
Mr.Baba summoned the excise department officials to ensure that the liquor shops should adhere to the time specified in the licensing condition.
The department and the jurisdictional police have also been asked to conduct regular checks on the illegal sale of liquor at the shops.
The excise department officials should conduct awareness programs in this regard.
Few students who are present at the meeting asked the police officers that they fell embarrassed and humiliated at schools as they were called out by their friends and classmates using the caste .
“We were mocked with the caste names and even the teachers and village elders aware but not doing anything “a student rued before the senior police officers .
Taking a strong objection,Mr.Baba asked the officials of the education department and Pancvhayath Development officer,present at the meeting to take immediate action and ensure such practices should not be repeated .
The department were asked to conduct awareness meeting and take strict action if such practices are repeated .
The police later visited the dalit colonies and visited each and every houses and pasted stickers containing the names and number of the police officers to be contacted in any eventualities .
The idea is redressing the issues and instill confidence among the members of the general public that the police are at their service.The youth and members of the village have been asked to join the police force to help them fight crime .
Mr.Baba along with the other officials had lunch with the villagers to convey the message that the police are among them and they need to help each other to fight crime and maintain law and order.
