DG prisons denies all charges and says it is an attempt to defame me ;
DG Prisons,H.N. Sathyanarayana Rao told reporters here that these are lies. On what basis are the allegations being levelled? There is no proof or any witness .we have provided on special facility. We didn’t even accede to the requests of MPs and ministers when they came to visit her (Sasikala). We have no reason to give these special facilities. Immediately I spoke to krishna kumar, the jail Superintendent and Dr Anitha who confirmed that no special treatment was being given to Sasikala. Many of the undertrials are drug users. They try to get access to drugs even in prison. We undertake regular inspection to prevent access to drugs. Her claim that she discovered huge quantity of drug is nothing unusual. I am in the know of things. I get information it is an attempt to defame me there is no proof or witness available. A senior colleague has made wild baseless allegations. This could hurt their reputation. This is not acceptable hw added .
C R Saraswathi, AIADMK spokesperson speaking to reporters said that who would believe these claims?. The whole area is under CCTV surveillance. Not just the jail, even the approach road is covered do you think it is easy for someone to pay 2 crore rupees ? Has she got a special kitchen? Obviously everyone is keeping an eye on VIP prisoners like her. It is an issue between the DG prisons and the DIG Prison and they have dragged her she said .
DMK spokesperson told that convict in the DA case has used money to get her way around. The karnataka government must probe into these allegations remember this is a report from an IPS officer.
Krishna Kumar, jail Superintendent told media persons last night senior IPS official, D Roopa made some comments disregarding the court orders, government notifications and the police manual. These are baseless allegations, the morale of the force has been hit due to these allegations he added .
Karnataka was rocked on Thursday when a senior police official went public highlighting the rot in the state’s prison department.
A term in jail is supposed to reform a convict. But what happens if the convict is capable of reforming his or her surrounding with the most important inducement, money, well that perhaps sums up the sordid happening in the jail particularly parapanna Agrahara central jail of bengaluru .
The prison gate controversy seems to be spiraling further every passing day .
DIG Roopa pays second visit to central prison, submits fresh report.
Deputy inspector general (prisons) D Roopa, who recently exposed alleged corrupt activities in jail, paid a second visit to the central prison in Bangalore, where AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala is serving her sentence.  She has reportedly submitted her second report to DGP (Prisons) HN Sathyanarayana Rao on Saturday.
In the report, she has highlighted the state of affairs pertaining to maintenance of the central prison, and alleged that crucial CCTV recordings of VIP treatment to AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala, who is serving a sentence, appear to have gone missing.
“There are only two CCTV cameras in the visitors’ gallery. Camera number 8 and 9 fitted near the admission room have no recording facility. Sasikala was given a separate room with chair and tables so she can conveniently talk to her visitors. We had recorded all these on camera but it looks like they are deleted now says  reports.
‘Mayhem in Bangalore jail’
when DIG, D Roopa visited central jail a tension was prevailed while interacting with prisoners it is alleged that the jail  Superintendent Krishna Kumar was not on the premises. When she sought to listen to grievances of the prisoners, all hell broke loose. At least 500 odd inmates tried to get her attention. Soon the Superident rushed back to prison, the prisoner who came back with him picked a fight with those sharing problems with DIG. The tension escalated to the extent that she had to leave the jail premises in a hurry.
Roopa has been in the spotlight after she pointed to speculation about jail officials, including her senior, DGP Sathyanarayana Rao, having received a bribe of Rs 2 crore to provide special treatment to Sasikala. She had exposed several lapses in the prison’s administration, which were, however, denied by Rao and the jail officials.
“It is inappropriate on her part to share details with the media,” Siddaramaiah told reporters in Mysuru, expressing open displeasure over the public comments by Roopa, whose report has also brought her superior and other prison officials under a cloud of bribery allegations.Siddaramaiah said she could have approached any of her superiors about her charges against senior officials and that her allegations before the mainstream and social media has brought embarrassment to the police department.Roopa has been asked to give a reply to the notice served on her, the chief minister told reporters.
In her first report, Ms. Roopa alleged that prison officials had accepted Rs 2 crore to provide privileges including an attendant and a special kitchen for Sasikala. There are also allegations that she received more visitors than the allowed quota, but their visits were erased from prison records and CCTV cameras. “She alleges that CCTV coverage at the barracks where inmates like Sasikala are housed were deliberately made defunct. Two cameras in the visitor’s room that everyone has to pass through also did not have records.” It was based on this information, which she learned from a prison officer, that Ms. Roopa inspected Central Jail on June 28 and later on July 10.
Two top officials of Parappana Agrahara and the Belagavi prison have instigated a protest amongst inmates and staff against me for filing a report on the irregularities in Bangalore Central Jail,” Ms. Roopa has allegedly written in her report seeing strict action against the erring officials, according to the reports.
Mr. Rao was not available for comment, while Ms. Roopa said she had nothing to say on this matter.
Recordings erased?
In the second report, Ms. Roopa said she had used a video camera from the prison department to record the statements of the inmates during her visits. It was during these interactions that she pieced together the alleged irregularities. While returning to her office, she had asked one of the staff to send the recorded clip but what she got was an empty clip. According to a source, when she questioned the the staff, they confessed it had been done at the behest of seniors.
Inmates refuse to return to barracks
Over 700 inmates of the central prison in Parappana Agrahara poured out their woes to Deputy Inspector General of Police (Prisons) D. Roopa on Saturday. They alleged torture, severe punishment and threats to transfer them to other prisons if they did not meet the demands of prison officials. While she was hearing them out, prison staff allegedly tried to silence them.
The DIG summoned the Chief Superintendent of Police (Prisons) Krishna Kumar and pulled him up for not following protocol by providing an escort and remaining present during her inspection.Later, sensing trouble, Ms. Roopa walked out of the prison gate following which the prisoners staged a protest demanding her return to resolve their grievances.Meanwhile, after her inspection of the prison, Ms. Roopa visited the jurisdictional Parappana Agrahara police and pulled up the Inspector for failing to curtail the smuggling of marijuana into the jail. The protest continued till late on Saturday night with inmates refusing to return to their barracks. This prompted the Parappana Agrahara police, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) M.B. Boralingaiah, to rush to the prison to maintain law and order.Earlier, Director General of Police (Prisons) H.N. Sathyanarayana Rao visited the central prison around noon. He was followed by Ms. Roopa three hours later. The visit by both officials comes ahead of an inspection by a special team headed by former IAS officer Vinay Kumar, constituted by the State government, to probe the irregularities mentioned in the report submitted by Ms. Roopa.
